Our love for wool is growing, and it's become the latest inspiration in the shop. From table toppers to candle mats and even embellishments on our quilts. Wool applique can take the simplest Yellow Brick Road pattern and turn it into an extraordinaire! We love pairing it with Valdani thread... the perfect rustic combo : )

A little "Trick or Treat" to celebrate the first day of July!!

Since most everyone will be celebrating the first day of July with patriotic favorites, I decided to do something a little different today... We recieved our "Trick or Treat" charms by Deb Strain for Moda a couple weeks ago and this is what we've transformed them into! We put our own spin on the Nine Patch pattern and designed our own "9 Patch Halloween"!

Summer may just have arrived, but Autumn is only a few months away! And in the quilting world we all know what that means... time to start getting inspired for Halloween : ) I've come to realize that in the world of quilting, it is nearly impossible to stay in the present season, holiday, or even the moment. Who else in the world starts planning their Halloween or even Christmas decorations/gifts in the middle of JUNE?!! Last month I couldn't wait until Summer but upon its arrival also came the arrival of fabulous Halloween/Autumn fabrics and now I find myself yearning for October and already planning what I'm going to carve on my pumpkin this year! But don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE it.. because we all know that quilters have more fun : ) Anyway, heres a little something we've been working on in the shop:

Yearning to go to the Long Beach Quilt Show but regretting the drive?? Well, The Calico Horse has the perfect solution!! One of our shop employees, Susan, has organized a bus trip for Friday, July 29. The cost is $50 and includes entry into the show. Bus trip participants will meet that morning at 8:15am at 451 Business Center Ct, Redlands, CA, 92373 (just down the st from the shop). The bus departs at 8:30am and will return to Redlands at approximately 6:30pm. It is such a fun experience and a great opportunity to connect with fellow quilters. Every year the ladies return from the day unable to stop talking about how much fun they had! For more info or to reserve your seat, call the shop at (909) 793-1868. Payment is due by July 8. It's over! Over 1000 quilter's came through the shop during the Southern California Quilter's Run. We got to meet alot of wonderful quilter's and their families. Quilter's came from all over to visit 38 different shops traveled over 1000 miles to complete the run. Amazing. The winners of the prizes will be annouced in the next couple of days. Well it's a Boy and a Girl:) Very Excited and to hard to believe I never thought I would twin grandbabies and then be a boy and a girl. Our first granddaughter will arrive in May we can hardly wait. The twin are due in August, I think this is going to be a very busy year for me, but it will be so fun and exciting.

Time Where Does it Go

Boy does time fly! Hard to believe it is already the middle of February. We have been very busy at the shop remodeling, but were almost done. We just finished the Hemet Quilt Show which is always fun, seeing so many familiar faces and meeting new ones. Now it is time to start getting ready for The Spring Fling. Once again we will be doing a small shop hop in March, this is always a great day to get together with friends and check out your local shops. Each shop is giving a fat quarter for particpating hoppers from Nancy Halverson's Spring line. Watch for details on The Spring Fling.

My first grandbaby will be here in May, which we are very excited, and the twins are due in August. It is hard to believe we will 3 new grandbabies. Hopefully this week we will find out what the twins are (if they cooperate, if they are like my son they won't) As soon as we know I will be sure to let all of you know.

Hard to believe that Road to California is here next week. We have been very busy getting ready for Road. Once again I think we have some amazing quilts. Just when you think the sisters can't out do what they did, THEY DO. The sisters have done a wonderful job in helping me get ready for this show, along with all the rest of the shop employees. The Calico Horse is extremely lucky to have so many wonderful people working there.

Civil War Tribute Block of the Month

Civil War Tribute Block of the Month will start in January. We are very excited the quilt is going to be absolutely amazing. The girls have been working very hard to have the quilt finished by January.
The Block of the Month
Runs from January 2010 to December 2010
The Quilt is approx 101 X 101
The cost is $25.00 a month which includes Pattern and Fabric.

Well we just found we are getting a new grand daughter:) We are so excited she will arrive in May. So I am sure their will be alot of pink baby quilts, with kits to go with them at the shop. Im sure she will be Grandpa's little princess, good thing he is retiring. Grandpa will be retiring at the end of December which will mean alittle remodling at the shop.

Fun Day of Sewing

Thank you to all who come out and helped sew quilt tops for the Quilts of Valor Organization. It was a great day of sewing and friendships.

Many hands make for light work, many stars anr rails were made to make a Buggy Barn Stars an Rails Quilt. One top was finished today and another one started. This wonderful group sent out 30 quilts this last year to our soldiers.

And of course no day would be complete without Starbucks and Wendy's Cookies:)))

Quilts of Valor Raffle

We have been involved with a wonderful group of ladies, who make quilts for our soldiers who come home from their tour of duty. These are soldiers who have fought for our country, who have come home with some type of injury.

They have sent out over 30 quilts this past year, the postage on each quilt they send is $13.00. The Calico Horse would like to help them with the postage, so we are raffling off 3 quilts between now and Nov. 14th. All proceeds will go to The Quilts of Valor Organization.

Along with raffling off the quilts, on Saturday November 14th we will be having a sewing day. Come sew all day for $13.00, we will provide fat quarters, in hopes to make two quilt tops to donate to The Quilts of Valor organization.

Quilts of Valor

Quilts of Valor provides a handmade quilt to each soldier returning home from their tour of duty, to help them with the postage we will be raffling 3 quilts. It costs $13.00 to mail each quilt, and they have mailed over 30 quilts this past year. Raffle tickets will be $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Along with raffling the quilts we will have a special sew day Saturday November 14th. This will be a collaborative group effort to piece hopefully 2 quilts which will be donated to Quilts of Valor. The cost of class is $13.00 which will also be donated the group. Seats are limited, so sign up soon and come join the fun.

A Successful Quilt For A Cure Day

I want to thank everyone who came out and made The Day such a successful Day. With the Sale of Raffle Tickets, and the proceeds from the Quilts Chris and Karen sold. We will me able to donate over $2,000 to Redlands Community Hospital. It is a really good feeling to be part of such a wonderful group of quilters. The seven lucky winners have been called, for those of you didn't get a call thank you so much for your support.

Saturday October 10th will be our Quilt for A Cure Day. We have wonderful quilts for Raffle with all proceeds going to Redlands Community Hospital. We will have Quilts for Sale made by our own Chris and Karen (The Sisters), with a portions of the proceeds going to Redlands Community Hospital. Be sure to come join the fun, we will be having some great shop specials.

I want to thank all of you who came out and supported the Reindeer Dash last weekend, it was a huge success. So many of you donated canned goods I just want you to know how much this appreciated.

Civil War Tribute Block of the Month

This is an amazing quilt using fabrics from a new Judy Rothermel Line Civil War Tribute. The Block of the Month will start in January 2010 and run until December 2010. The Cost will be $25.00 a month. We are taking names if interested in being on a waiting list. The Quilt finishes at 100 x 112.

We have been busy getting ready for fall, Debbie has made this wonderful fall quilt My Three Stars, By Buggy Barn using several prints from Jo Morton.

We also have made a great Pumpkin Wall hanging, using several Civil War Fabrics. Great weekend project:)
